Lawn Bowling Explained
Lawn bowling is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls (a bowling ball weighted to roll in a curve) so that they stop closest to a smaller ball called a “jack”. Lawn Bowling is played outdoors on a flat lawn surface that is divided into parallel playing strips called “rinks”. The game begins with a toss of a coin to see who goes first and wins the “mat”. The winner of the mat chooses whether to go first or not. The jack is rolled first to establish the target. One the jack is centered in the middle of the rink; the players take turns to roll their bowls from the mat towards the jack. Points are awarded for each bowl a player of the same team is closer than the opponents nearest bowl. The exercise is then repeated for the next end. A game of bowls is typically 12 ends.
Lawn Bowling is a low impact sport suitable for all ages and abilities. All equipment is provided. Flat soled shoes are the only necessity.
